Chancellor Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, Mercy Medical University.

It is an honor to announce that the first Chancellor of Mercy Medical University is Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, FCDA, FCIDA (Santankin kontagora).

Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto was born on 15 february, 1959 in Magama Local Government Area, Niger State of Nigeria. He had his primary school education in Local Education Authority Primary school Ibeto, between 1968 and 1972. He attended Government Secondary School, Rijan between 1973 and 1977. He proceeded Zungeru College, Bids for the Advanced West African Student in 1979 to 1980 .He earned the Bachelor of Arts Degree of History at honors division from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto In 1985 Mastersin Leadership Student (MLS) of the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2016.

Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto was a classroom teacher between 1977 and 1978, a Clerical Officer at 1978 to 1979 and the National Youth Service Corps Liason Officer, FCT Abuja between 1985 and 1986.

Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto has a firm creep in the local and National terrain as he had served as Executive Chairman, Magama Local Government Council, State Chairman of Republican convention, State Secretary of All Nigerian People Party. He was senior special assistant on protocols to the Niger State Governor, a member of House of Representatives. He was Deputy Governor of Niger State from 2007-2015 and State Leader of   AU Progressive Party In 2015. He was appointed, High Commissioner to South Africa and Swaziland in 2017

Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto served in several Ad. HOC Committees of the House of Representative among which are Caretaker Committee, Magama Local Government Council, Rijan and  House Standing Committee on National Planning, Naving Public Service, Abuja. He was Deputy Chairman, House Committe on state and Local Government Affairs

The first Pro-Chancellor is a fellow of some professional bodies such as Certified Institute of Public Administrators and Administrative Mangers of Nigeria. He had won several prizes. Honours and awards which includes. Pro-Chancellor Prize for Best Behaved Graduating Student, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, NYSC Chairman’s Award for Meritorious Service, Abuja. He also hold a doctorate DEGREE in Administration of California University and Institute of Journalism Enugu 

Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto has travelled to several countries including United Kingdom, United State of America, Canada, Romans, France and most of Africa Countries. He holds the titles of Satnrakin Kotagora and Tafide Ibelu.

Pro-Chancellor Prof. Rasheed Ajani Bakare First Pro-Chancellor, Mercy Medical University.

Pro-Chancellor Professor Rasheed Bakare, born on February 5, 1953, in Kemta, Abeokuta, Ogun State, is a highly esteemed figure in medical academia and governance. He began his educational journey at Ahmadiyya Primary School, Abeokuta, before attending Abeokuta Grammar School, where he completed his Higher School Certificate in 1974. His passion for medicine led him to the University of Ibadan, where he earned his MB; BS degree in 1981.

Following his internship at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and his service with the National Youth Service Corps in Ikire, Professor Bakare embarked on a distinguished career in pathology. He completed his residency at UCH, eventually earning Fellowships from both the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College (1990) and the West African College of Physicians (1995), specializing in Clinical Bacteriology and Venereology.

A consultant and professor of Clinical Microbiology, Professor Bakare has made remarkable contributions to medical science and education, particularly in the areas of sexually transmitted infections and venereology. He has held key roles, including Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology at UCH, where he served for over two decades, guiding research, education, and clinical practice. His leadership in the Ibadan SAVVY project and work with the African Collaborative Centre for Microbiome and Genomics Research (ACCME) further underscores his commitment to advancing healthcare in Africa.

Widely recognized for his contributions, Professor Bakare has published over 100 journal articles and has served as an external examiner to medical schools in Nigeria and Ghana. His expertise has also been sought by the Federal Ministry of Health, where he chaired the Technical Working Group for Sexually Transmitted Infections in Nigeria.

As the Pro-Chancellor of Mercy Medical University, Professor Bakare brings decades of academic and administrative experience to guide the institution’s growth, ensuring it remains at the forefront of medical education and research. His dedication to mentoring future healthcare professionals and his impressive academic legacy make him a vital asset to the university.
